Overview
This training addresses the regulatory and standards framework for SSI and smoke extraction, including an overview of EN 54, NF S 61-9xx and APSAD R7. Participants analyze ERP, IGH, commercial, industrial or parking-type projects to determine requirements.
The programme covers the layout of an SDI, the choice of SSI category, life-safety functions and connections with DAS devices. It addresses simplified sizing of natural and mechanical smoke extraction, including smoke vents, openings, air inlets, extractors, ducts and grilles.
Hands-on practice uses architectural plans, computer-aided drafting (CAD) tools and spreadsheets. It results in a mini-file including FAI, scenarios, a correlation table, a synoptic diagram, layout plans, calculation notes, equipment lists and a CCTP extract.
Objectives
• Understand the regulatory and standards framework applicable to SSI and smoke extraction.
• Analyze a project and determine SDI and smoke extraction requirements.
• Design and lay out an SDI with detectors, manual call points, alarm equipment, zoning and categories.
• Size an SSI and its connections with DAS devices.
• Size a natural and mechanical smoke extraction system according to simplified design office rules.
• Draft alarm and life-safety functions, scenarios and correlation tables.
• Produce plans, synoptic diagrams, calculation notes, equipment lists and CCTP extracts.
Who should attend
• Design office engineers for CFA, technical trades or TCE.
• Technical and pre-sales managers at fire and SSI integrators.
• Account managers and designers involved in designing SDI, SSI and smoke extraction systems.
• Persons responsible for the design and sizing of building fire safety solutions.
Prerequisites
Work as an engineer in a design office and be proficient in CAD drafting, notably AutoCAD.
