Natural & Mechanical Smoke Extraction - Mastering Standards, Sizing and Commissioning

Hands-on training to understand, wire and test natural and mechanical smoke extraction installations. It covers smoke vents, openings, shutters, dampers, fans, DCM/UCMC control panels, SDI-CMSI-DAS links, cause-and-effect matrices, block diagrams, status feedback, manual controls, faults and test reports.

Natural & Mechanical Smoke Extraction - Mastering Standards, Sizing and Commissioning

Overview

This training explains the role of natural and mechanical smoke extraction in fire safety. Participants identify the rooms concerned and recognize smoke vents, openings, shutters, dampers, fans, plenum boxes and DCM or UCMC control panels.
The programme situates smoke extraction within the SSI architecture, from the SDI and the CMSI through to the DAS devices. It teaches how to read a synoptic diagram and a cause-and-effect matrix, then how to connect controls and status feedback.
Hands-on practice includes wiring and commissioning a natural smoke extraction control panel and a mechanical control panel, with mock-ups, safety power supplies and suitable cables. Tests cover life-safety activation, feedback signals, faults, mains power failure and manual control, before drafting a simple test report.

Objectives

• Explain the role of natural and mechanical smoke extraction in a fire safety strategy.
• Identify the rooms and circulation areas affected by smoke extraction.
• Recognize the components of a smoke extraction installation.
• Situate smoke extraction within the SDI, CMSI and DAS architecture.
• Read a simple cause-and-effect matrix and a smoke extraction synoptic diagram.
• Wire, connect and commission natural and mechanical smoke extraction control panels.
• Connect DAS status feedback to the CMSI.
• Carry out functional tests and draft a simple acceptance sheet or test report.

Who should attend

• CFA technicians and engineers.
• SSI technicians and maintenance staff.
• SSI design offices.
