Overview
This training explains the roles of a NAS in an SME: file sharing, backup and application storage. Participants learn to choose disks, RAID level, capacity, performance and fault tolerance.
Commissioning includes installing the disks, creating a storage pool and a RAID volume, network configuration and possible domain integration. Users, groups, shared folders and permissions are then configured and tested.
Hands-on practice covers backing up workstations and servers to the NAS, then from the NAS to an external drive, a cloud or a second NAS. It includes snapshots, file restoration, replication, simple iSCSI, disk replacement and documentation.
Objectives
• Understand the roles of a NAS in an SME.
• Choose and size a NAS and its disks based on RAID, capacity, performance and fault tolerance.
• Commission a NAS on a company network and perform a simple integration with an Active Directory domain.
• Create and manage volumes, shared folders and access permissions.
• Set up backup strategies between workstations, servers, NAS, external drive, cloud or a second NAS.
• Use snapshots, replication and simple iSCSI.
• Apply good practices for security, updates, logging and documentation.
