Advanced Virtualization with Proxmox VE - Level 2

Overview

This Level 2 training covers the design of a two-to-three-node Proxmox architecture suited to an SME. Participants create and administer a cluster, then connect NFS or iSCSI shared storage for virtual machines.
The programme covers high availability, HA groups, automatic failover, offline and live migrations, as well as a simple backup, replication and disaster recovery strategy. Networking is covered in depth with bonding and several VLANs dedicated to management, storage, production and testing.
The hands-on practice uses a multi-node Proxmox platform, two HP servers, a NAS and L2/L3 switches. The final project combines network segmentation, high availability, a disaster recovery scenario and the use of the pvecm, qm and pct commands and logs to monitor and troubleshoot the cluster.

Objectives

• Design a multi-node Proxmox architecture suited to an SME.
• Create and administer a Proxmox VE cluster.
• Set up NFS or iSCSI shared storage, or a simplified Ceph environment in the lab.
• Configure and test high availability for critical virtual machines.
• Use offline and live migrations between nodes.
• Build a simple backup, replication and disaster recovery strategy.
• Configure an advanced Proxmox network with bonding and multiple VLANs.
• Use Proxmox CLI administration tools to monitor and troubleshoot a cluster.
• Build a mini high-availability Proxmox infrastructure with network segmentation and a disaster recovery scenario.

Who should attend

• IT technicians and engineers.
• Support or help desk technicians and engineers.
• CFA technicians and engineers.
• Systems technicians and administrators who have already deployed or administered a Proxmox VE node.

Prerequisites

Master the concepts of Proxmox Level 1 and know the IP networking concepts of subnet mask, gateway and ping testing.
