Virtualization with Microsoft Hyper-V on HP Servers - Level 1

Overview

This Level 1 training introduces the principles of virtualization and the role of Hyper-V in the Microsoft ecosystem. Participants prepare an HP ProLiant server, covering the hardware, RAID configuration and the use of the iLO interface.
The programme continues with the installation of Windows Server and the Hyper-V role, followed by the creation and administration of virtual machines. The settings cover CPU, RAM, VHDX files, ISO images, checkpoints and external, internal or private virtual switches.
The hands-on practice consists of designing and deploying a small Hyper-V infrastructure of three to four VMs for an SME. It includes storage, export and import, simple backups and restores, as well as the security, maintenance and documentation of a mini-infrastructure.

Objectives

• Understand the principles of virtualization and the role of Hyper-V in the Microsoft ecosystem.
• Prepare an HP ProLiant server for virtualization by configuring hardware RAID and the iLO interface.
• Install Windows Server and the Hyper-V role on an HP server.
• Create, configure and administer Hyper-V virtual machines.
• Set up and operate external, internal and private virtual switches, as well as a simple VLAN when possible.
• Manage VM storage with fixed or dynamic VHDX files and data disks.
• Perform simple VM backups and restores by export, import or Windows Server Backup.
• Apply security and maintenance best practices for a Hyper-V host used in an SME.
