Computer Networks Level 2 - Mastering Enterprise Infrastructure

Overview

This level 2 training teaches how to read and understand an enterprise network architecture, then how to set up redundant switching with RSTP and EtherChannel/LACP. VLANs, inter-VLAN routing and a redundant gateway using HSRP or VRRP structure the local network.
Dynamic OSPF area 0 routing, NAT/PAT, ACLs and DHCP relay are then configured. Monitoring is based on SNMPv3 and Syslog, while device management is hardened with SSH, accounts and appropriate passwords.
Hands-on practice uses L2/L3 switches, routers, a firewall, servers and a GNS3 lab. It includes Ansible for backups and small changes, a site-to-site VPN, log reading and the documented completion of a small 2-tier campus type project.

Objectives

• Read and understand a network architecture.
• Ensure clean, redundant switching with RSTP and EtherChannel/LACP.
• Set up VLANs and inter-VLAN routing on L2/L3 switches.
• Use a redundant gateway with HSRP or VRRP.
• Deploy dynamic OSPF area 0 routing.
• Implement NAT/PAT, standard and extended ACLs, and DHCP relay.
• Configure SNMPv3 and Syslog to monitor devices.
• Harden device management with SSH, accounts, passwords and banners.
• Use Ansible at a beginner level to back up or modify configurations.
• Commission an intermediate firewall and a simple site-to-site VPN.
• Carry out and document a small 2-tier campus type mini-project.

Who should attend

• CFA technicians and engineers who have completed level 1 or an equivalent level.
• Technicians and administrators already operating a small network.
• People working on SME or small campus networks.

Prerequisites

Master simple IPv4 addressing and know how to commission a local network.
